Vitamins and Supplements

Supplements are a way of adding to your nutrition intake or to provide what is missing from your diet. I have learned that supplements can be very important for overall health. Ever since I started (actually about 6 to 8 weeks later) B-complex and Evening Primrose, my “chemo brain” is gone. Remember that when starting any supplement it takes about 6 to 8 weeks for your body to actually feel the effects. So don’t get discouraged if you start something and it does not work right away.

The body needs a wide variety of vitamins and minerals consistently for optimal health. Meaning the body needs the same amount daily and this cannot easily be provided by diet alone.

Besides my supplements, I drink lemon water everyday, and I try to drink barley grass juice everyday (I mix it with about 4 oz. of organic tomato juice).

Most of my vitamins and supplements are from Puritan’s Pride. I find the quality to be good, and they’re inexpensive.

Daily multi vitamin

B-complex 100 – supports energy production and nervous system function. Increases overall mental and physical health and reduces stress.

Vitamin C with rose hips (I was told rose hips help with absorption) 1,000 mg, or 1 gram – supports healthy immune function.

Vitamin D3 1,000 IU (I do take 2,000 IU, my multi has 1,000) – bone and immune health.

Super DHA fish oil 500 mg – promotes brain, vision, joint and cardiovascular health.

Evening Primrose Oil 1,000 mg – increases feelings of well-being, reduces hot flashes and vaginal dryness, and so much more (see bottom of page).

CoQ10 100 mg (I’ve read 200 mg is recommended) – heart and circulatory health, and helps normalize LDL (bad) cholesterol.

Iodine Plus-2 12.5 mg – thyroid and breast health, may prevent breast cancer, but it depends on the type of iodine. Iodine deficiency may cause cancer. I just ordered a different iodine supplement to try from Seeking Health, click here to check out their iodine supplement. This supplement is a little cheaper at Seeking Health (click here to check out their other supplements), so I will post an update once I have received and taken this product.
Turmeric 500 mg (upping it to 800 mg) – antioxidant

Biotin 5,000 mcg (5 mg) – supports healthy hair and nails.

Gingko biloba 120 mg – supports healthy brain function, and is said to reduce depression and short term memory loss, enhance cognitive function and possibly treat dimentia and Alzheimer’s, among other positive effects.

Kolorex 2.5 mg – intestinal care, natural yeast control formula (for yeast overgrowth – a whole other subject).

Pearls Complete Probiotic Enzymatic Therapy – healthy bacteria that supports digestive and immune health. I recommend this brand because it survives the stomach acid in order to get into your intestines, which is where it actually works. If taken as a capsule or tablet, stomach acid can kill most of the healthy bacteria before it actually reaches the intestines. Looks like a pearl. I know it works because I have fought many yeast infections with this brand. See picture below. Aloe Vera Gel 5,000 mg – digestive health (I used to drink the juice, which may be better, but the pills are less expensive).

D-Mannose 700 mg (Swanson Vitamins – I do not get paid to advertise this product and others I have listed on this page) – helps the kidneys and bladder to flush bacteria. This actually cured my last urinary tract infection after antibiotics did not help.

MORE INFORMATION based on what I have found in my research. I cannot guarantee the following, but I do believe in it……..

Vitamin B-complex – contains all the B vitamins and each B does something different. It’s known to be low in the elderly, vegetarians and those who consume a lot of alcohol. It can be found in dark leafy greens, animal proteins, milk, cheese, some fish, whole grains and sea vegetables. Trying to eat enough of these all foods may not be possible, and that is not the only nutrition that you need from your food. Besides .overconsumption can cause weight gain. Vitamin B supports and maintains a healthy body, helps keeps red blood cells healthy, reduces fatigue, protects against cancer, regulates nervous system, may decrease chances of illness over time, and reduces stress, anxiety and depression.

Evening Primrose Oil – A preventative herb that maintains youth and prevents disease. Essential for cell structure and improves elasticity of the skin. Balances hormones to contribute to help the breast tissue. Improves nerve function. Can help lessen menstrual cramps, premenstrual breast tenderness, irritable bowel flareups, carbohydrate cravings, and helps control endometriosis associated associated inflammation. Helps absorption of iodine and minimizes fibrocystic breast inflammation. It is said that Evening Primrose is now being studied as treatment for aging problems, alcoholism, acne, heart disease, hyperactivity in children, menopause symptoms, multiple sclerosis, weight control, obesity, PMS and schizophrenia.
